the other week i posted about the fab fashion exhibitions i saw at manchester art gallery, full of colour, glitz, glamour, sequins and lots of lace! well, the same day, in the same building, i also visited an exhibition about modern japanese design and it was probably the most calming, sedate exhibition i've ever been to - two total contrasts, each amazing in their own way. the japanese exhibition featured furniture, fashion and many accessories from vases and lighting, to pots and jewellery. it was truly beautiful - there's something incredibly calming about japanese design... the sculptural nature of many of the pieces is stunning and i continue to be amazed at the craftsmanship and origami style designs...
the gallery space was beautifully curated, to be honest i could have continued absorbing the atmosphere (and possibly nodding off due to such serene conditions!) for hours, but had to make a dash out into the real world and rain... boo! the pieces looked amazing against the original architectural features of the building and the display cases filled with natural stone and lit beautifully complimented the pieces to perfection. the graphic communicator responsible for this exhibition did themselves proud, from the simplicity of the long communication banners, to the super clever, yet simple perspex description boards. yes, yes, i am a super geek to waffle on about this, but also totally appreciative of the contribution to the overall feel... beautiful.
seriously, if you get chance, it's on until jan 2017 - go, go, go see this exhibition and connect with your inner zen!
